Based on the homonymous novel by Joseph Conrad, "The End of the Tether" tells the story of aging British sailor Harry Whalley, who, in order to help his impoverished daughter and raise money to go to Melbourne to see her for a last time before he goes completely blind, sells his vessel and takes a job in a steamer ruled by a vicious ex-machinist who tries to sink it in order to collect the insurance.
